Length: 10 days Price: $3,200 Under an almost white sun, children play; scuffing up little clouds of dust from the red earth that dominates the country of Burundi. Their dirt-worn clothes may be old and torn. Their small bodies may be rapt with hunger, but they are still children. There may only be a short time until their eyes—dark, yet sharp from drinking in the African sun—become dulled from the effects of malnutrition, and the despair that accompanies the obscurity of poverty. In the province of Gitega, up a winding mountain road that stretches for miles among breathtaking jungle views, sits a small town named Kibuye. In this rural community is a clinic that has been the only source of medical care for many local families here. Though just a small clinic, this place will see more types of illnesses in one month than many western hospitals will see in one year. Join us as we work alongside local medical professionals at the Kibuye clinic. Our care will focus on acute illness, preventive care, prenatal care, malaria treatment, and treatment of HIV/AIDS. You can make a difference in the lives of those who may otherwise never have access to the simplest of medical care. |
