"I am humbled by the spirit, pride and dignity these people presented in spite of their difficult circumstances. It has been an honor to share the love of Christ with them and I shall treasure this always"
- Sonia
"Well, this has been a tremendous week of ministry not only to the Haitian people but with each other."
- Arlene
"My life is changed I have never experienced such poverty before and yet the simple offer of prayer to the Haitians was so welcomed with joy and gladness, it has deeply moved me. "
- Laura
Team six dentists, one doctor, three nurses, and six helpers provided medical and dental care and dispensed prescriptions for hundreds of people in a tent city of 6000 people during 4 days. The team also had a clinic day in the neighborhood where we were staying. The team worked together with a medical mission couple working for the World Challenge and benefited from their vast experience.
We offered prayer to the people and about 50 people accepted Jesus in their hearts.
The Haitian people touched our hearts with their dignity and resilience. Despite their circumstances, they came to the clinic in clean clothes patiently waiting for their turn. Most of the children in the tent cities cannot afford to go to school (uniforms and supplies cost money). Our team was very concerned about the babies and children under 2, many of them are malnourished. The number of babies is increasing since many women in the tent city are pregnant. The future for the people in the tent cities looks grim because they don’t seem to have a way out; either they don’t have the land or the means to rebuild. We understood that medical help is temporary; we needed to give people Jesus, because only the love of Jesus would heal their hearts and souls, and He would stay with them after we left and cannot be taken away.

Haiti May 2011: Day 8
It was hard to say goodbye to Sylvie and Andre the last morning in Port au Prince; their family and staff had been so wonderful to us. We are so grateful for the team God put together, people from diverse backgrounds but bonded in love. God really answered our prayers for unity and love. The dentists: Onie lead the team with such grace and humility, always on top of things, always giving all the credit to God. Our young dentists: Nicole, Ryan, Pam, Tremane, and…[read the rest]

Haiti May 2011: Day 7
Friday was our last full medical clinic day. This time we set up the clinic in Andre and Sylvie`s backyard to provide medical care to people in the neighborhood, altogether about 200 medical and dental patients. As the team is wrapping up to return to the States, here are reflections by the team members. “My life is changed I have never experienced such poverty before and yet the simple offer of prayer to the Haitians was so welcomed with joy and gladness, it has deeply moved me. `So He humbled you , allowed you…[read the rest]

Haiti May 2011: Day 5
Our last day in Mega 4 started out hot and humid after the downpour the night before. A line was forming outside the tent used for our medical and dental outreach. The day turned out to be very fruitful and productive. We worked until after twilight. Kieran ministered to a patient, A.I., who was a former body builder brought to a sad place in his life after losing his home and gym in the earthquake. We removed his ingrown toenail and the wound is healing…[read the rest]

Haiti May 2011: Day 4
Our fourth day at Mega 4 clinic started out being hot and humid because of the rain from the previous night. We could only imagine what the rain had been like in the tents. The ground was still muddy with puddles here and there. The line was already waiting for us when we arrived. After a prayer and quick set up we were eager to greet the first patients. Today we treated over 100 people and 13 accepted Jesus! During lunch we also helped out…[read the rest]

Haiti May 2011: Day 3
Today was our first full day of running the medical and dental clinic at Mega 4. Around 8:30 am, after our morning devotion and breakfast we loaded up the trucks with our supplies and headed to the tent city. We set up the work area in a tent that is used as a church, using church benches and other miscellaneous garden chairs for dental chairs. We had workstations for six dentists, three nurses and two physicians. We also had an improvised sterilization area where a…[read the rest]

Haiti May 2011: Day 2
Sunday morning we had our worship service under the palm trees in the guest house back yard. Cool, gentle breeze, peace and quiet in the presence of the Lord. After a wonderful time of worship, Dr. Gene Smith led the service. The very fitting sermon topic was the prayer of Jabez from 1 Chronicles 4:9-10. `Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh,…[read the rest]

Haiti May 2011: Day 1
Saturday morning at 5 am, the On Call missions team to Haiti gathered in front of Times Square Church to load supplies and take a shuttle to JFK. Even though some of us hadn`t slept at all, everyone was in cheerful spirits and full of expectation to get to Port au Prince, especially those for whom this was the first missions trip. One first timer said he had been smiling so hard his cheeks were hurting! Thank God, everything went smoothly at the airport and…[read the rest]
